Business Process Manager

Watsonville, CA

Our ideal candidate has 5+ years internal process control experience within the sales department of a mid- to large-sized agri-business enterprise; strong business acumen; and the desire to effectively manage key strategic customer relationships within a values-based company.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership/Management (25%)

  • Serves as main point of contact for interdepartmental process controls, manages policies and procedures related to Sales Service group functions, tracks KPIs, and ensures the transactional accuracy and operational efficiency of the Sales Service team.
  • Assigns and adjusts customer accounts to Business Managers based on workload and skillsets, cross-trains staff on essential department functions, and ensures proper coverage when colleagues are out of the office.
  • Conducts bi-monthly contract reviews to ensure contracts are deployed, monitored, and closed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Works cross-departmentally to ensure smooth and timely month-end closing; works with Finance to manage accounts payable and accounts receivable issues connected to the Sales Service team.

Customer Service (55%)

  • Manages daily business of large strategic accounts; fields customer questions and advises on solutions as issues arise.
  • Masters knowledge of assigned accounts including products, packaging, specifications, customer pickup and delivery requirements, supply chain, and relationship history.
  • Develops new sales leads and re-contracts existing business in conjunction with Sales Lead.
  • Enters contracts, purchase orders, sales memos, transfers, credits, debits, and rebilling into database and maintains updated online repository of pricing quotes and customer contracts.
  • Compiles shipping priorities to ensure scheduling of highest priority loads; distributes Certificate of Analysis, packing lists, FDA proceeds, and quality paperwork for load deliveries.
  • Prepares and distributes weekly status reports and analyzes changes to shipping schedules, impact to customer, and viable solutions to concerns.

Sales Support (20%)

  • Creates formal sales quotes for new and existing business and actively drives contracting/re-contracting of business for assigned accounts; ensures all quotes, customer contracts/bookings, and formal pricing are organization in online contract repository.
  • Leads cross-departmental Opportunity Meetings to facilitate successful implementation of new brand launches, large new or recurring business bids, or new contract opportunities.
  • Vets new items, supply sources, and packing/pack sizes; monitors database and ensures annual review of customer specifications, artwork, and label instructions.
  • Coordinates customer approval and supplier setup documentation with Food Safety/Quality Assurance, Accounting, Commercial Operations, and Supply.
  • Creates and reviews quarterly inventory budgets for accounts with vendor managed inventory or standard replenishment programs.
  • Coordinates sending samples to customers as needed.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • B.S. in Business or related field and 5+ years experience managing strategic relationships and accounts in the ag or food business sector
  • 5+ years experience managing internal business process controls including departmental gap analysis, strategic planning, and process control implementation
  • Previous experience managing direct reports in a customer-facing environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and strong customer service and problem solving skills; ability to build strong business relations and establish trust
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Highly organized with strong time management and prioritization skills
  • Proactive and self-driven with the ability to multitask and work effectively with conflicting priorities and changing deadlines
  • Track record of continued growth and professional development
  • Approximately 10% domestic and international travel required
  • This role allows flexibility to work from home 1-2 days/week after initial training period
